چکیده

Abstract This paper investigates the use of stability factors for estimating ultimate bearing pressures on cylindrical caissons in cohesive-frictional soils. Rigorous upper and lower bound limit analyses with finite elements axisymmetric (AX) condition are used a series numerical studies. The capacity ( N c 0 , q ? ) surface circular footing firstly revisited. is followed by study effect caisson’s embedded depth ratio L / D ). A comprehensive set F cd qd ?d then reported as function soil internal friction angle ? obtained results compared published solutions literature. Several examples given to validate principal superposition well illustrate how produced estimate should be great interests practitioners.

Stability of anchored sheet wall in cohesive-frictional soils by FE limit analysis

This study extends the limit analysis techniques used for the computation of strict bounds of the load factors in solids to stability problems with interfaces, anchors and joints. The cases considered include the pull-out capacity of multibelled anchors and the stability of retaining walls for multiple conditions at the anchor/soil and wall/soil interfaces. Three types of wall supports are exam...

Analysis of Axisymmetric and Non-Axisymmetric Stretching of Sheet Metals by the Finite Element Method

Stretching process of sheet metals in both cases of axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric is analyzed. A rigid-plastic, normal anisotrop material is assumed and large strain formulation is applied. Triangular elements are used and stiffness equations of elements are obtained from virtual work principle. These nonlinear equations are linearized by Newton-Raphsons method and are solved by Gaussian el...

Bearing Capacity of Strip Footings near Slopes Using Lower Bound Limit Analysis

Stability of foundations near slopes is one of the important and complicated problems in geotechnical engineering, which has been investigated by various methods such as limit equilibrium, limit analysis, slip-line, finite element and discrete element. The complexity of this problem is resulted from the combination of two probable failures: foundation failure and overall slope failure. The curr...

3d bearing capacity analysis of shallow foundations on layered soils using discrete element method

distinct target of this paper is development of 'implicit discrete element method (dem)' in three dimensions for estimating the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations on layered (non-homogeneous) soils consisting of sand overlying sand or clay overlying sand and vice versa with different shear resisting parameters. in this method, shear resisting parameters and density of ea...

Numerical Analysis of Delamination Buckling in Composite Cylindrical Shell under Uniform External Pressure: Cohesive Element Method

Nowadays, due to high ratio of strength to weight, composite cylindrical shells are extensively used in a great variety of different industrial applications and under different cases of loads. In this study, the buckling of composite cylindrical shells was examined under uniform external pressure. The buckling analysis of composite cylindrical shells was first done by using theoretical relation...
